This policy explains what information our website collects, why, and what choices you have.
What personal information we collect and why
You can browse our website without telling us who you are. We only collect personal information when you choose to give it to us, or as described below.
Contact form
When you send us a message through our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number (if you give it), the subject and your message. We use this only to reply to you. We do not add you to a mailing list or use your message for marketing.
Your message is stored on our website and emailed to our staff. To help us block spam, we also store a scrambled, one-way code made from your IP address. We cannot turn this code back into your IP address.
Mailing list
When you sign up for our mailing list, your email address and (if you give them) your first and last name are sent to Mailchimp, the service we use to send our emails. We use this information only to send you news about films, events and the theatre. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Site search
If you accept cookies, when you use our site search we record the words you searched for, how many results were found, which result you chose and the page you searched from. This helps us improve the site and find out what visitors are looking for. To estimate repeat searches, we store a one-way code made from your IP address and browser type. We do not store your actual IP address or browser details. If you reject cookies, your searches are not recorded.
Accessibility and translation tools
Our accessibility toolbar remembers the settings you choose, such as text size or contrast. These settings are saved in your own browser and are never sent to us.
If you report an accessibility problem with the feedback form in our accessibility toolbar, we collect your name and email address (if you give them), your description of the problem and the address of the page you were on. This is emailed to our staff and used only to fix the problem and reply to you.
If you use the toolbar to translate the site into another language, the page is translated by Google Translate. The page’s text and your IP address are sent to Google, and a cookie is saved in your browser to remember your language. The translation tool only loads when you choose a language. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
Analytics
With your permission, we use our own analytics tool, which runs on our website and does not send information to anyone else. It counts things like which pages are viewed, how visitors found us, how long they stay, and clicks on email, phone, download and outside links. It saves a random code in your browser to tell new and returning visitors apart. We keep only daily totals. We do not store your IP address or anything that identifies you.
With your permission, we also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website, for example which pages are popular and how people find us. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, and your general location (city or region). It uses cookies to tell visits apart. We do not use this information to identify you, and we do not use it for advertising.
Our own analytics and Google Analytics only run if you click Accept on our cookie banner. If you click Reject, they do not load. You can also opt out of Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See Google’s Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Website security
Like most websites, our web server keeps short-term technical logs, including IP addresses and browser details, to keep the site running and protect it from attacks and spam. Our hosting provider’s security service may briefly check your browser to confirm you are not an automated bot.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time with the Manage Cookies link at the bottom of every page.
| Cookie | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| site_cookie_consent Essential | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected non-essential cookies, so the banner does not keep appearing. | 6 months |
| visionred_analytics_vid Analytics (only if you accept) | A random code from our own analytics tool that tells new and returning visitors apart. | 1 year |
| Other visionred_analytics_ cookies Analytics (only if you accept) | Used by our own analytics tool to follow your current visit, such as the page you arrived on, how you found us and how many pages you viewed. | 1 day |
| _ga, _ga_* Analytics (only if you accept) | Set by Google Analytics to tell visits apart and measure how the site is used. | Up to 2 years |
| googtrans Only if you translate the site | Remembers the language you chose in the translation tool. | Until you change or reset the language |
Your accessibility toolbar settings are saved in your browser’s storage, not in a cookie, and stay there until you reset them or clear your browser data.
If you reject cookies, we remove any analytics cookies already in your browser. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, but some features may not remember your choices.
Embedded content and links to other websites
Some pages may include content from other websites, such as videos or maps. Embedded content behaves the same way as if you had visited the other website. Those websites may collect information about you, use cookies, and track how you use the embedded content, especially if you are logged in to an account with them.
Our website also links to our Facebook and Instagram pages and to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites, so please read their privacy policies.
